Rare Beer Tuesday (Tonight!)
As we do every Tuesday at 5pm, we'll be tapping a very special keg for growlers tonight. Our feature this evening is from Brewery Ommegang. The description as per the Ommegang press release follows below. This beer was only available in a select few parts of the country and we certainly weren't scheduled to be one of them.***Please note, The Charleston Beer Exchange is not political whatsoever. Today's feature is in no way any kind of endorsement, celebration or statement of any political agenda. We're just here for good beer and this one is a superstar.
"Inauguration Ale (a.k.a. Obamagang)
January – February
6.2% ABV – Draft only
The TTB won't let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more…um…direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration – in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we've asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)"
Carolina's Beer Dinner, Wednesday the 25th (Tomorrow)
Don't forget, tomorrow evening at 7pm Carolina's is hosting "A Taste of the Orient" with two exquisite Japanese breweries: Baird and Hitachino. Carolina's puts on one heck of a dinner so we hope to see you there. Please see their website for more details:
Foothills Brewing Company Kick Off, Friday the 27th
Please join us for the long awaited, highly anticipated launch of Foothills in the Charleston market! Jaime and Scott from Foothills Brewing will be here with Carolina Craft Distributing. Well known as one of North Carolina's finest brewers, their beers will be an outstanding complement to our beerscape in the Lowcountry. Foothills is draft only so bring your growlers as The Charleston Beer Exchange will be the only place in this part of the state you can purchase these beers to take home. All taps will be Foothills starting at 5pm until they are gone. Beers for the line up will include Pilot Mountain Pale Ale, Torch Pilsner, Hoppium IPA, People's Porter, Seeing Double IPA and maybe a couple of other special surprises.
The guys will be at Mellow Mushroom the next night (Saturday) starting at 5pm for their on premise kick off so be sure to check that out too!
Cask Event Part 2, Saturday the 28th
Our first firkin was such a huge hit this past Saturday (it sold out in 45 minutes) that we are doing another one this coming Saturday! The cask will again be tapped at 2pm. This time the feature will be Heavy Seas Holy Sheet, a Belgian style strong dark ale. We strongly suggest showing up as close to tap time as possible to avoid missing out as this one is sure to sell out extremely fast once again. *Reminder: Real cask ale is a highly perishable product and must be consumed the same day so please plan accordingly.
